I am sure everone has heard the term "dog days of summer". As a bass fisherman and regular tournament angler, I believe it should be the "frog" days of summer. Warm mornings and sweltering days in South Louisiana leave all but the most committed fisherman at home for some of the best fishing there is to be had. I know alot of anglers hate the heat of summer reaching over 100 degrees at times but if properly outfitted, this time of the year can provide exciting fishing trips.

First lets talk about supplies. On a typical summer day, you must have the following:

Lots of fluids (water, gatorade etc.)

  1. A great sunscreen product. I recommend Skinblockers as this product comes on a towel, is easy to apply, and is readily available since it can be stored safely in tackle boxes and other locations without the risk of spillage.
  2. Cool clothing
  3. Proper tackle (I will go into this later in the article.
  4. More fluids

Given that you are properly equipped, fishing the hot and heavy days of summer can bring much enjoyment and tremendous visual strikes since largemouth bass will tend to protect themselves from the direct sunlight.
